
I used to be more impressed by heroic effort.
The late-night push. The last-minute save. The frantic deck rescue. The spreadsheet that emerges from the ashes wearing a tiny cape.
Now I mostly see heroics as a signal: a broken system relying on the goodwill of one person — or their insecurities — to keep functioning.
Sometimes heroics are necessary. Workloads can fluctuate wildly.
But that is also a lazy acceptance.
Even a fluctuating workflow that needs stabilization under load is signaling that it cannot scale.
AI can help here, but not if we only use it during panic.
The better use of AI is cadence:
- Daily checks
- Weekly summaries
- Monthly reviews
- Triggered alerts
- Recurring evidence capture
- Regular decision logs
- Readouts
The boring stuff.
Naturally, it is the boring stuff that saves everyone. I am in Governance as a life calling, and we have believed this for generations.
AI should not just help us sprint harder when things get chaotic.
It should help prevent so much work from becoming chaotic in the first place.
