The Fine Print
Accessibility
This site is meant to be readable by everyone. Here's the commitment, and how to tell me when it falls short.
This site aims to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. Good systems should carry everyone.
What’s in place
- Semantic structure — proper landmarks, one heading hierarchy per page, and a skip-to-content link.
- Keyboard navigation — every menu, link, and form works without a mouse, with visible focus indicators throughout.
- Color contrast — text colors are chosen to meet AA contrast ratios against their backgrounds.
- Reduced motion — if your system requests reduced motion, animations are disabled and the home-page video will not autoplay.
- Readable type — body text at a comfortable size and line height, in a column narrow enough to follow.
- Alt text — images that carry meaning have text descriptions; decorative images are hidden from screen readers.
- No text trapped in images — nothing important is communicated only through pictures.
Known limitations
Some older downloadable PDFs in the Field Guide Vault were built as slide decks and may not be fully screen-reader friendly. If you need any of that material in an accessible format, ask — it will be provided.
Tell me when it breaks
If any part of this site is hard for you to use, that’s a defect, not your problem. Write to christa@christaburger.com with the page and the difficulty, and it will be fixed as quickly as possible.
